Caesar III is a video game developed by Impressions Games and published by Sierra Entertainment in October 1998. It's the third installment of the Sierra's Caesar series of city-building games. The following game in the series, Caesar 4, was released 8 years later, in 2006.

[edit] System requirements

According to the game's readme, your PC must meet or exceed the following requirements to play this game:

[edit] Minimum system requirements

  • Pentium 90MHz
  • 4x CD-ROM drive
  • 16 MiB of RAM
  • Video card capable of 16bit in a 640x480 resolution
  • 150MiB (+ 100MiB for virtual memory) free hard drive space

[edit] Recommended system specifications

  • Pentium 133 MHz
  • 32 MiB of RAM

[edit] Cheats

[edit] Cheat codes

While playing, right-click on a well to pop up its information box, then press ALT+K to enable the cheats (they will remain enabled until you close the game). Then you can use the following cheats:

  • ALT+C: add 1,000 Denarii to the city's cash account, but this only works if it has less than 5,000 Denarii
  • ALT+V: when you close the well information box you'll win the scenario

[edit] File edition cheats

In the game folder, you can edit c3_model.txt (with any text editor like Notepad or Notepad++), which contains settings such as structure costs and desirability. For instance, the well is normally configured as:

Which means that it costs 5 Denarii and has a small negative desirability. We can change this, for instance, to:

Which means that building a well gives us 500 Denarii, plus the well is attractive for the citizens.

[edit] Various tips

To produce soldiers faster, you need to build several barracks, which isn't normally possible. To be able to build several barracks, you need to have no barrack, then build as much as you can/want very quickly out of reach of a road (the one barrack limitation has a short delay before becoming effective, during this time you could manage to build around 4 barracks)[2].
