Civilization V follows four similarly named games in the Civilization series (which started in 1992 with Civilization and still involves Sid Meier).
It was released for Windows on 21 September 2010 in North America, 24 September elsewhere. It was then released for Mac on 23 November 2010.
Notable departures from earlier games are hexagonal tiles, city states, and the fact that stacking of combat units is not allowed, even in a city (but cities, with or without a garrison unit, can fight attackers).
