The main character is an American OSS agent, Karl Fairburne, disguised as a German sniper inserted into Berlin in 1945, during World War II, with the objective of obtaining German weapons technology before the Soviet NKVD does. When sniping, the player must consider gravity, wind speed and direction, heart rate, breath, posture, etc, to be able to hit their target.

Most common problems
Crash with weird sound
On some systems with Windows XP and a Creative SoundBlaster sound card, there may be occasional sound corruption. The user will hear a continuous white noise, and the game will freeze and eventually restart the computer. The solution for this bug is to set the sound card hardware acceleration to "None", which can be done in Control Panel → Sounds And Audio Devices → Audio tab → "Advanced" in "Sound Playback" section → Performance, and then disable hardware acceleration (move the slider to "none").
This clip is a demonstration of some of the mechanics of the PS2 game Sniper Elite. It was set on Custom and the Sniper Elite difficulty with all options enabled.
