[edit] General information

[edit] Status

On September 1, 2007, Ubisoft released a single player-only version of the game as ad-supported freeware on FilePlanet, although this was removed when non-US residents downloaded the game. According to Ubisoft, the offer is no longer available. This version of the game is still available on 3rd party download sites, such as Fileshack.

[edit] Latest version

The latest version is 1.4. The patch can be downloaded for free on Ubisoft.
This patch contains a minor bug which may prevent the mouse from working properly. To fix this, simply restore the controls to default (after this you can customize them again).

[edit] Game presentation

[edit] Plot

The game's story follows an ex-Special Forces operator, Jack Carver, who is stranded on a mysterious archipelago in Micronesia. He is searching for a female journalist he was escorting after she went missing when their boat was destroyed by mercenaries. The game includes thematic elements relating to the dangers of genetic engineering and the genocide of local islanders as can be seen by the deformed creatures created by a mad scientist named Krieger. The terrain in Far Cry varies greatly. Set on a South Pacific archipelago, the landscape includes beaches, tropical rainforests, dense jungles, towering canyons, mines, swamps, and even volcanic forests. Many of the interiors range from simple beach huts and army camps to elaborate complexes, an underground temple, and ultra-modern research labs. Several of these mazes use the remains of WWII Japanese-era fortifications and bunkers.

[edit] Game tweaks

[edit] Console commands

Press [~] to open the console. All commands must start with [\], obtained with the [tab] key. For instance: \map demo.

[edit] Offline commands

  • map [mapname]: loads a map. Available maps: archive, boat, bunker, carrier, catacombs, control, cooler, dam, demo, factory, fort, pier, rebellion, regulator, research, river, steam, swamp, training, treehouse, volcano. Example: \map archive

[edit] Online commands

  • vote [yes/no]: vote in the current vote
  • listplayers: shows a list of players, with their id
  • pb_list: shows the Punkbuster list of players, with their PB id (different from the previous id!)
  • callvote [your vote]: creates a vote, for instance:
    • callvote map mp_airstrip: creates a vote for loading the mp_airstrip map (NB: the available maps are different from the single-player maps)
    • callvote restart: creates a vote for restarting the map
    • callvote kick 5: creates a vote for kicking player number 5 (id from the listplayers function)
  • pb_kick x: adds a Punkbuster kick vote against the player whose PB id is x
  • kill: commit suicide (useful when you are stuck or when a new spawn point is available)

[edit] Color your name

In the configuration screen where you enter your name, type one of the code below to obtain colored letters:

  • $0: Black
  • $1: White
  • $2: Blue
  • $3: Green
  • $4: Red
  • $5: Light Blue
  • $6: Yellow
  • $7: Pink
  • $8: Orange
  • $9: Gray

For instance, if you want the name "Wiki4Games" with "Wiki" and "Games" in green and "4" in gray, you need to type: "$3Wiki$94$3Games"

[edit] Cheats

[edit] Enable cheats

To enable cheats, you have to enable the developer mode. To enter developer mode, you need to edit the shortcut to the game:

  • In the start menu, right-click on the shortcut and click "Properties"
  • Open the shortcut tab, and edit the target field:
    replace "F:\GAMES\Far Cry\Bin32\FarCry.exe"
    with "F:\GAMES\Far Cry\Bin32\FarCry.exe" -devmode
    (NB: note the "", replace the path with yours)

[edit] Create the god-mode cheat

To make the god mode available, go to the game folder and edit DevMode.lua (with Notepad++ or equivalent): at the end, add:

function ToggleGod()
if (not god) then
 if (god==1) then
        Hud:AddMessage("[CHEAT]: God-mode ON");
        Hud:AddMessage("[CHEAT]: God-mode OFF");

[edit] Edit the all weapons cheat

If you want to use the cheat that gives all weapons early in the game (by early I mean before getting the binoculars during the first level), you should remove the following line in the DevMode.lua file:

[edit] Using the cheats

Launch the game using the modified shortcut (if you use the play button that appears after inserting the DVD, the cheats won't work). All levels are unlocked, and during the game, the following keys are available:

  • [backspace]: toggles god mode
  • P: gives all weapons (NB: with 0 ammo)
  • O: gives 999 ammo for the current weapon
  • [F1]: toggles first/third-person view
  • [F2]: move to next checkpoint (NB: it is strongly advised to enable god mode when using this cheat, since you will appear in uncleared check points, which may be crowded with enemies)
  • [F3]: toggles fly mode
  • [F4]: toggles noclip (same as fly mode but you also fly through walls) (NB: this interacts with the fly mode, eg if fly mode is on and you press [F4], it will disable it)
  • [F9]: marks curent positon
  • [F10]: moves to marked position
  • [F11]: shows lots of useless debugging informations
